Most people will have at least one cavity in their life. It’s very common, even for patients with excellent oral hygiene. The good news is, we can fix them easily, quickly and with little or no discomfort! Tooth fillings are a way to restore a damaged tooth to its normal shape and prevent further decay.
What are some Common Cavity Symptoms?
Some common cavity symptoms are:
- Visible pits,
- Pain while chewing.
You may also notice black or brown staining on the tooth. If you think you may have a cavity, we’ll start by taking a look at your teeth. In the event that we find a cavity, we’ll remove the decay and place a cavity filling. It’s very straightforward, and you’ll be ready to get on with the rest of your day before you know it.
Mercury-Free Tooth Filling
We only use mercury-free fillings at our office. Traditional mercury fillings have many drawbacks compared to newer bonding materials. These fillings can wear down and even weaken the structure of your teeth. Sometimes the silver can show through the enamel of teeth, creating a gray appearance. Not to mention, they can also create staining on the surrounding teeth and gums.
The dental fillings we use are made of a durable resin. These fillings are stronger and less likely to weaken or wear down than traditional silver fillings. Resin fillings fit better to your tooth, so they can be used where a lot of the natural tooth structure has been lost. The resin also contains fluoride, so your tooth will have added protection from decay. As a bonus, they’re tooth-colored, so they easily blend with your surrounding teeth. Unlike silver fillings, resin fillings are discreet, and no one will be able to tell where you’ve had your teeth filled.
